Some Japanese Makeup Brushes

Laura, left a comment requesting a few times from my to do list a while ago, better late than never right?

The items were:
Yojiya Ebony shadow brush round squirrel
Yojiya Ebony shadow brush Canada squirrel
Koyudo BP031 Eye Shadow Brush M
Koyudo C011 Eye Shadow Brush R
Koyudo BP039 Eye Shadow Brush S
Koyudo BP037 Eye Shadow Brush S
Koyudo BP033 Eye Shadow Brush M

I added some other brushes in the post as well.

Very long post!

Starting with Yojiya brushes, I only purchased two to try.

Yojiya Ebony shadow brush round squirrel and Yojiya Ebony shadow brush Canada squirrel

The Yojiya brushes are incredibly nice to use, they are very gentle on the eyes, no scratchy feeling at all.  A lot more affordable than Suqqu brushes while being similarly quality (hairs).

This is my bad Suqqu M brush btw

I think they feel similar, do the same kind of job etc

Now onto Koyudo brushes.

Very nice brushes, no scratchy ones so far.

BP031 and BP033 are made of different hairs but are both very soft and gentle. BP033 probably is 2 times bigger on side view.

BP037 has to be washed before use because it looks like a calligraphy brush when brand new, it's a lovely blending brush for my small eyes (see close up photo for reference).

BP039 is kind of similar in shape to Hakuhodo G5513BkSL Eye Shadow Brush round flat nice for sensitive eyes if the Hakuhodo is a bit rough.

Similar but C011 is firmer, more useful for blending but too big for a "pencil brush" jobs for me.  Z-10 is ok for soft graphic placements on sensitive eyes but kind of useless otherwise because too floppy.  My ideal size for a pencil brush is Hakuhodo G5515BkSL.  I won't be looking for another Suqqu S dupe.

White Mushroom!
I saw it mentioned on MUA by spookydeuce, her pictures made me want it and I had cdjapan points to spend to make it slightly less expensive.

As packaged  (I thought they ran out of the pouch, nice surprise)

The black handle is is kind of shimmery, not flat black.

Pain to photograph!
Incredibly soft and fluffy, I don't even care if it will make my powder foundation look nicer, it's here for petting lol  I don't think it's possible if you're talking about the THREE powder foundation because that stuff is fool proof with application and wears like iron while looking like skin.

Bonus SUQQU brush family pics
Each Suqqu brush is different (sorry cheek brush is dirty)

"The Cheek brush". I have purchased way to many alternatives to this brush...
Started off with RMK blush brush, then Chikuhodo Z-4, Koyudo Red Squirrel Cheek Brush, and Tanseido Cheek Brush YAQ 17 before I finally caved and purchased the SUQQU anyway.  For Science! lol
RMK, Suqqu, Chikuhodo Z-4, Tanseido Cheek Brush YAQ 17 (all in their brand new state)

I thought the cheek brush really was tiny at first, probably the plastic sleeve shaped it to be so narrow. After using it a few times, it flared out to that shape in the dirty picture. I like the brush, it is perfect for THREE blushes because they are so soft and pigmented, not so great with hard blushes. There are softer brushes out there but this one has that soft just bouncy thing going on so it's not soft and floppy which is kind of useless when trying to blend things out. Btw this brush doesn't make applying blush easier, better or make me want to apply blush more often much like a Wacom Cintiq 24HD touch (ew price) doesn't make someone draw better than using Intuos 3 or want to draw more.

I rarely use the Suqqu L eyeshadow brush, it's for those all over the base or glowy e/s shades. It feels like a mini Cheek brush :)  I prefer something smaller to be honest.

My Suqqu F eyeshadow brushes were purchased around the same time, one from Japan and the other from Selfridges. They don't look identical but they are both the same quality.  I wanted try one since I saw Suqqu demo videos by Erica.  Darn it I keep watching that EX20夏牡丹 video lol

My Suqqu M eyeshadow brushes were purchased the same way but years apart. The older one is bad because it is scratchy and pokey. The scratchy one is made with thicker hairs and are mostly blunt while the new one is made with silky finer hairs uncut hair just like other brushes. I have been hating on the old one for years, questioning why it was so popular and people keep saying how soft it is so I got a second one to see if it is any different and wow are they are so different!  I like the new one but not sure why it is rounder and less pointy.

Btw I have no need or urge to purchase the Suqqu Powder brush.  Lunasol and RMK powder brushes are decent enough and I still have unused Chikuhodo Z-1 and Z-9 in plastic wraps.

Anyways I hope the pictures are helpful.  I'm working on that list!

Dior Addict Fluid Stick

Dior Addict Fluid Sticks, my current lip obsession at the moment.  You can tell I love them since I have 5 and a 6th (in mail since Adambeauty has restocked)

Whisper Beige 219, Tiny Pink 269, Rieuse 373, Aventure 551 and Wonderland 575

Whisper Beige 219, Tiny Pink 269, Rieuse 373, Aventure 551 and Wonderland 575

I think they are all shimmer free.  They are scented, I'd say medium strength, maybe a bit stronger than their their lip polish range.

My favourite as it shade is Tiny Pink 269.  I like to layer or blend Whisper Beige with the others to get a brighter effect because Whisper Beige evens out my lips and lets the other shades sit better, otherwise Riesue looks a lot like Aventure but sheer.  Whisper Beige is also my perfect nude lip colour.

I use a lip brush to apply these, I don't like using the wand and dipping it back in tbh.  They seem to infuse my lips with moisture and keep them moist, no lip peeling experience.

These retail around $50 AUD at my local counters, I just go there to see which colour I would like and stalk Adambeauty or some other web shop.

Sisley Phyto-Ombre Eye Shadows and a Phyto-Lip Twist

Sisley is probably more well known for their skincare, I didn't even know they had make up until I saw Bubbly Michelle post their Phyto-Lip Twist and it looked so good.  I became quite curious and purchased a few Sisley Phyto-Ombre Eye Shadow and Phyto-Lip Twist after a lot of google research (meaning one thing lead to another).

Here I have Phyto-Lip Twist no.3 Peach, eye shadows are  Dune, Mango and Stardust

The lip crayon is very pigmented, like a balmy lipstick.  I like it but I don't want more of them for now.
Long lasting, not drying or very moisturising, slight stain, scent free and tasteless if you wanted to know.  For now, it lives in my handbag with a Dior Fluid stick.  I think it will have to live in the fridge once winter is over and spring and summer is back but I hope to finish it before that happens.

Phyto-Lip Twist no.3 Peach.  You can see there is micro shimmer :(

Sisley Phyto-Ombre Eye Shadow are hands down the most amazing eyeshadows I have ever tried. The pigmentation is amazing, a little goes a long way and blends like a dream and most important of all "no eye irritation" because the last thing I want is to feel like the wind blew sand/dust in my eyes after paying $$$ for XBR e/s.

I don't know how it works but these apply really well on my bare skin, most e/s will not stick without primer and simply roll off.  The lasting power is decent without primer but there is slight creasing after 4 hours, it's still around after 10 hours but has that worn in look.  Primer is a must for the just applied look all day long and Canmake Lasting Multi Eyebase WP is perfect for my skin.

Dune is not lighter or darker than my eyelids, it gives a slightly desaturated even look to my eyelids and can look glossy if applied heavily. Pale golden sheen...maybe. Very pigmented even though it can look like nothing in certain angles, I think it makes a nice inner corner highlight for medium skin tones.

Stardust is a complex shade, refined shimmer, grey silver leaning green.  I thought this was very close to Suqqu 06 Ginbudou's grey with the rare pictures on the net, turns out it's a tiny bit lighter and greener but I love it just as much as Ginbudou's grey and sometimes I use them together.

Mango is a orange peach colour with a golden sheen.  This shade shows up differently on my eyelids than in the swatch and it changes drastically if layered on top of other colours.  Disappointed and yet not disappointed because it became a nice correcting shade.  Anything that looks sickly on me can probably be fixed with a dab of Mango lol *cough like that mustard yellow from Three duo 05 Love Evolution.

I didn't swatch the golden brown that Stardust+Mango makes. Surprisingly they work really well as a trio.

What is next from the range?  They have quite a few colours, I might give up on Suqqu and just get more Sisley because there are no third party resellers that make Sisley more expensive, if anything evilbay has them for cheaper than my local rrp.

So sad that I broke mango :(

Heavy swatch with fluffy brush

Black background for contrast (lighter hand swatch)

Btw, let me know if you want me to post more swatches with black background as well as the white wall version.

With some almost similar shades in my stash

The shade from Suqqu ex-12 is less pigmented and not just lighter, the only shade I like from it is the brown shade.  Suqqu shades usually swatch really washed out on my skin unless I use some primer like eproxy.

With some not similar at all shades once on eyelids

I hope the pictures and swatches were helpful.

FOTD with SUQQU EX-11 Sumiredama

Sorry for the lack of posts lately.  Not much sun lately and a lot of rainy days has kept me unmotivated about taking pics for my blog.

All 4 shades of SUQQU EX-11 Sumiredama on eyes and a tiny touch of By Terry Royal Navy on lower lash line.  I don't know if I like it, this is my 2nd time using Sumiredama, just not comfortable in these colours or applying makeup beyond a sheen wash and liner.

I got a haircut, so before and after phone pics.  Phone pics are more flattering than Nikon face pics lol

Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow EX-14 Ruridama and EX-20 Natsubotan

I thought I should post my photos of Suqqu 2014 Summer before I get onto to Suqqu 2014 Fall.  I know it's a bit late and bad to post  with the products being sold out and all but I have the pics anyway and hopefully it will give you some idea on how to dupe the colours.  I'm sorry the photos are not of my usual quality.

EX-20 Natsubotan didn't appeal to me at all when the promotional pictures were released but it would not get out of my head so I had to buy one and I repurchased EX-14 for pics.  I have reviewed and swatched EX-14 Ruridama before, see link for pictures, btw looks better with a blue base.

I love Kate's Fake up of Suqqu EX-20 Natsubotan
Silverkis has done a very nice swatch comparison for EX-20 here.

Ex-15,   Ex-20 and EX-10
Look at those dark shades, I swear they are similar enough

Sisley Phyto Ombre Eclat Eyeshadow 09 Garden Rose, YSL Pure Chromatics 4 Wet & Dry Eyeshadow 05,
EX-20 Natsubotan and Suqqu Gradation Cheeks EX-02 Mizumomo
I thought the pink would look just like the pink from Suqqu Gradation Cheeks EX-02 Mizumomo but it isn't as bright or cool toned.  Grrr at different cameras!

I was browsing some blogs and saw a very pretty swatch of By Terry Ombre Soyeuse Ultra Fine Eye Shadow 05 Dapple Bronze and I found it on sale.  I thought this could be similar to Rouge Bunny Rouge Abyssinian Catbird and hopefully I can wear it without problems.

BT Dapple Bronze and RBR Abyssinian Catbird

BT Dapple Bronze and RBR Abyssinian Catbird (lower exposure and I look super tanned haha)

BT Dapple Bronze and RBR Abyssinian Catbird
As you can see from the swatches, Dapple Bronze is greener while Abyssinian Catbird looks very bronze next to it.  Dapple Bronze has finer shimmers and less slip than Abyssinian Catbird.  I can wear Dapple Bronze with no problems, it is a lovely shadow but not the most flattering shade as a wash, it only looks good when it is applied as intense as the photos above.  I'll play with it a bit more since the texture and colour payof is lovely.

Just to wipe the dust of this old blog, a post about this new to me product...

next to window

with sunlight (could not capture the rainbow shimmer)

hand and face are similar colour

on my inner arm it looks closer to the pot colour since I smear a whole chunk of it to get that opacity

I was very excited to see these in store and I tested them out on my hand.  I didn't swatch more than these, I didn't want to deal with SA or anything.  I just thought 02 was very purple brown and dry while the other two are smoother to apply and actually smudge proof,  02 had already wore off a bit by the time I got home to take these pictures.  I purchased 05 later online from David Jones at $49 AU since 02 was out of stock and it looked similar to the brow powder colour I use.

After testing this out on my brows, my colour choice was a bad one for my needs if I wanted to reduce my brow routine to one product.  Since I need to draw on 1/3 of my brows this doesn't work but if I only wanted to make my brow less sparse then it is very natural looking.  This makes a great base for a darker pencil/pens to add more depth and it is truly smudge proof and realistic "fake" brow tail.  I haven't had the chance to test this on a 4 hour bush walk during summer at 40 degree Celsius or something close to that.

As a cream eyeshadow, it is lovely and there is no need for an eyelid primer with this.  This product goes really well with Chanel illusion d'ombre which is good news for me because they always require a base to not crease.

Zoeva 223 Petit Eye Blender is amazing for applying this kind of product as e/s btw.

I wonder if product range performs differently depending on the colour since shade 02 Wenge wood was so dry and could be rubbed off easier than shade 05 and 06.
